We encourage children to spend more time outdoors
On 5th November, World Outdoor Classroom Day was celebrated, a global movement to make time outdoors part of every child’s day as teachers take children outdoors to learn. Children are spending less time outdoors than ever before, which is affecting their health, well-being and love of the natural world.
Reversing this dynamic and encouraging children to spend more time outdoors, both in their day-to-day school life and outside, will make them grow up happier and healthier, and help them form habits that will stick with them for life, such as love of the natural world, its care and protection.
Coruña British School actively took part in this initiative, which was also joined by twelve Globeducate schools in France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Canada. Education Director Oanh Crouch launched the Outdoor Learning Community in 2019, “a community of 20 schools, and growing, is built on the foundation of understanding the tremendous benefits the outdoors offer for our students and teachers in their learning, well-being and happiness. It is also a great platform to provide our students with valuable opportunities to develop their skills of collaboration problem-solving and creative thinking”, she explains.
Our Outdoor Day Coordinators Ms Jeken and Ms Sánchez described this amazing day: “Outdoor day was a great experience for all involved, celebrating the natural environment and integrating it into our learning. It gave CBS a new perspective into learning and how learning can be achieved in different ways”.
