Early Years

At this stage of their education children develop emotionally, affectively, physically, socially and cognitively. Each student’s progress is individually monitored and children are encouraged to work at their own pace in a friendly, supportive and stimulating environment.

The Early Years stage provides the foundation upon which a child’s education is built. Our pupils learn through play, build relationships and experiment by means of a variety of fun, interactive and practical activities. Children acquire and develop motor skills, improve cognitive function and physical skills, speak and learn in English and participate in a wide range of creative and practical activities. Music and swimming form an important part of the curriculum at this stage.

Immersion in English is key throughout Early Years, and quickly becomes habitual for your child from the moment they join the school.  Numeracy, literacy, play-based activities, music, and art are all delivered in English. This relaxed and natural approach to learning English fosters a positive attitude towards learning language in general, and engenders curiosity and interest in other cultures. Children grow as individuals, developing their unique and distinctive character traits and take their first steps of a journey of learning that will last a lifetime. From Reception onwards, children are also taught Spanish.

We believe that a strong and positive home-school relationship is essential to your child’s progress and well-being, and so we work closely with parents and families to guide our students along their educational path. Pupils learn and grow in a caring, happy, family-friendly environment, surrounded by wonderful teachers, whose principal aim is to cultivate a passion for learning that will last a lifetime.

Children at Coruña British School always look forward to Monday morning!

“When I came to work at CBS, I wasn’t sure what to expect – however in the first few weeks I realised I had made the correct decision: an authentic British School in an authentic Spanish town! … everything I had been looking for, but most importantly everything needed to engulf an inclusive bilingual and bicultural education.

Every day I watch our pupils in Early Years grow and learn, and it is fascinating as an educator to watch the children develop their language, social and academic skills in a second language, which will soon rival their first. I feel honoured to have been part of the process. Likewise, it is amazing to observe our little humans on their individual paths, developing into accepting and open-minded young adults ready to take on the world. Sometimes I pass them in the hallway and listen to the chatter… and I think proudly, ‘I helped with that, I have been a part of his/her journey!’

At CBS there is a strong sense of community, and a real partnership among staff, children and parents. I very much enjoy community events such as our Summer Fair where we really work together and get to know each other, forming bonds that go further than the walls of the classroom.

However, my favourite part of Coruña British School is having had the pleasure to work with our dedicated team of wonderful professionals – always striving for greatness, lending a hand and going above and beyond for each other and the children.”
